Wunderkind
Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad (R) 1983-99 and 2011-
Terry Edward Branstad was born for this work.
“He just lived and breathed politics,” longtime friend and law partner Richard Schwarm said.
“In fifth or sixth grade he announced that he was going to be governor.”
By the time he retired as 39th governor of Iowa, he was 52-years-old and had held that office longer than any man in history. At age 64 he mounted a successful campaign to retake the office. Success is all Branstad knew as a candidate and as of this writing he is “11 and oh” (as the Governor would say) in political races.
